This Novo Serus J Custom absolutely nails what Novo does best: vintage inspiration without feeling like a copy of anything that came before it. The Sherwood Green finish is killer, especially over the tempered pine body where the grain remains visible underneath. Novo's Light distressing adds just enough checking, edge wear and small marks to give it character without making the guitar feel overly relic'd. The matching Sherwood Green headstock, black pickguard and nickel hardware pull the whole thing together perfectly.
The foundation is classic Novo: a lightweight tempered pine body paired with a tempered maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. The Medium C profile measures .830", while the 9.5"-14" compound radius, 25.5" scale and Jescar 47095 frets give it a decidedly modern feel where it matters.
A pair of Lollar P-90s with nickel covers is a perfect match for this build, delivering everything from open, articulate cleans to the raw midrange and bite that makes a great P-90 so addictive. The hardware is equally serious, with a Mastery M1 bridge and Novo NV Vibrato with Lightning Bolt arm providing an exceptionally smooth and stable vibrato setup.
The Serus J has become one of Novo's defining designs for good reason. It's familiar enough to feel instantly comfortable, but between the sculpted body, tempered woods, distinctive hardware and unmistakable Novo aesthetic, there really isn't anything else quite like it.
