PRS Special Semi-Hollow Wood Library "Artist Top" | Slate Blue

This PRS Special Semi-Hollow Wood Library takes one of PRS’s most versatile platforms and elevates it with woods and appointments you simply won’t find on a standard production model. That’s exactly what Wood Library is about: select PRS dealers are given the opportunity to curate limited runs using premium and exotic tonewoods, custom finishes, and upgraded appointments outside the regular Core lineup. This one is particularly special, pairing a Black Korina back with a one-piece East Indian Rosewood neck, Ziricote fretboard and matching headstock veneer.

At the centre of it all is a spectacular Flame Maple Artist Grade top. Artist Grade sits above PRS’s standard figured maple and represents some of the finest tops available without stepping all the way up to Private Stock. Finished in custom Slate Blue, the figuring has incredible depth and movement, while the Smoked Black hardware gives the entire guitar a sleek, modern edge. The exotic woods aren’t purely cosmetic either. The Black Korina body, solid Rosewood neck, Ziricote board, and semi-hollow construction combine for a lively, resonant instrument with plenty of character.

Tonally, the McCarty III TCI / Narrowfield / McCarty III TCI configuration gives the Special an enormous range, with a 5-way blade and dual coil-tap switches taking it from full, articulate humbucker tones to clear, open single-coil-inspired sounds. Between the Artist Grade top, exotic Wood Library tonewoods, custom Slate Blue finish, and incredibly versatile electronics, this is exactly what makes Wood Library so exciting; about as close as you can get to the spirit of a Private Stock build without making the jump to Private Stock.
